Safety & Emergency Management
Association (SEMA)
Safety & Emergency Management
Association (SEMA) promotes injury prevention and
works for improving emergency and disaster management. These
objectives are achieved through awareness campaigns,
training programs, developing training materials and
assisting the government in this regard to plan and
legislate. The association helps and maintains contact with
the injured, for feedback regarding management of
emergencies and disasters.
Working in this
area for over a decade the association has a strong
familiarity with the working of all government and
non-governmental organizations related to Emergency &
Disaster management in Pakistan. The association works with
the best professionals in this field form all over the
country and abroad to develop the policies related to
management of emergencies and disasters in the country. At
present the association is actively working with the
government to establish trained and efficient Emergency
Services in Pakistan. In this regard the existing structure
of emergency response services is being revamped in the
country and a new concept of Emergency Services is being
introduced in the country through new legislation.
The association
started its work under the name of Society for Safe
Community, mainly in the areas of accident & injury
prevention and safety promotion. Looking at the
mismanagement of trauma victims and non-existence of
emergency services in the country the focus has drifted
towards the establishment of Emergency Services in the
country and helping the victims of accidents and disasters.
The Association works in partnership with American based
organization called
IDMAP, which is an International group committed in
organizing and helping prepare
Pakistan
for any type of a disaster. This group is focused to help
with education, capacity building and reduction of
duplication of efforts. Members of IDMAP
includes disaster managers, leaders of non
governmental organizations, academicians, and individuals
interested in disaster prevention, mitigation and management.
